01 — DER PROGNOSTIKER / editorial design

“Der Prognostiker” is my Bachelor diploma project and and translates to “The Forecaster”.

Der Prognostiker is a weekly newspaper that forecasts news-events from the future. It contains a TV/cinema/culture agenda, weather forecast, a weekly horoscope and various predictions for current events, lottery numbers, future gossip, scientific forecasts, etc.

All the predictions in the newspaper are ordered chronologically so that the closest predictions (TV/cinema/culture agenda) are at the beginning of the newspaper and the last prediction, in the year 2060, is at the end. Throughout the newspaper there is a green timeline at the bottom of the page which informs the reader at which point in the future the news above is taking place. The first 7 pages are filled with the weekly TV/cinema/culture programme (the headlines predict the ending of the movies) and occasional pieces of news, followed by a weekly horoscope and the majority of yet-to-happen news-events.
The newspaper takes into account the fact that future predictions become more unclear the further they are in the future. So the font gets smaller and smaller throughout the newspaper and the halftone raster of the pictures gets bigger and bigger, so that the last page is no longer entirely readable.
